CTOnews.com April 14, Canonical recently announced that hardware support (HWE) kernel updates will be distributed through Livepatch services. The first kernel to support is Linux 6.2, which will be released with Ubuntu 23.04 "Lunar Lobster" next week.

CTOnews.com learned from reports that Canonical also plans to provide HWE kernel updates in the Ubuntu 22.04 LTS release in July.

The main note is that Livepatch is an interest in the Ubuntu Pro subscription service and can upgrade the Linux kernel without rebooting.

Ubuntu Pro was officially released on January 27, 2023 and can be subscribed for free for personal and small-scale business use on up to 5 devices.

Livepatch patches the Linux kernel while the system is running, eliminating the need for unplanned maintenance windows for high severity and serious kernel vulnerabilities, reducing downtime and unplanned work.
