Beijing, April 14 (Xinhua)-- Adobe, a maker of image processing software Photoshop, has agreed to pay $3 million (currently about 20.64 million yuan) to settle kickback claims involving federal software sales in the United States, the Justice Department said in a statement on Thursday local time.

The DoJ said the settlement resolved allegations that Adobe made improper payments to companies with contracts or other relationships with the government under its solution partner programme to enable it to influence federal purchases of Adobe software.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Adobe paid a percentage of the price of software to these companies between January 2011 and December 2020.

The United States Government believes that these payments constitute kickbacks prohibited by law, causing Adobe to submit false payment applications to federal agencies.

Adobe responded that it had been working with the government since the government began its investigation in 2018 and was pleased to be able to "resolve the matter completely".

Brian Boynton, director of the Civil Division of the US Department of Justice, said: "people who do business with the government are prohibited from paying kickbacks because it may lead to unnecessary purchases and increase the cost of taxpayers." Boynton added: "We will continue to use all appropriate tools to ensure the integrity of the federal procurement process."
