CTOnews.com, April 14 (Xinhua) General Motors, Rivian and other companies face strong opposition for failing to adopt Apple's CarPlay platform, while Ford does the opposite. In a statement to foreign media 9to5Mac, Ford explained why it supports CarPlay.

Ford used its commitment to Apple's CarPlay as a selling point to overtake other electric vehicles from General Motors, Tesla and Rivian. In the past two weeks, GM has revealed that it will no longer support CarPlay in its electric vehicles from 2024, while Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe has redoubled his company's boycott of CarPlay.

GM's decision and Scaringe's comments were widely opposed by CarPlay users. In a statement to 9to5Mac on Thursday, Ford made it clear that, unlike some of its peers, it did not abandon CarPlay's plans.

A Ford spokesman said: "We will continue to offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto because customers like features that can easily access and control their smartphone applications-especially our EV customers, because some EV currently do not provide these features."

Ford has been a staunch supporter of CarPlay and Android Auto for years. The company also recently introduced firmware updates for several cars, including the Mustang Mach-E, further improving the CarPlay experience.

Doug Field, a former Apple executive who led the Apple Car "Project Titan" team for many years, is now vice president of EV and Digital Systems at Ford, according to CTOnews.com. Ford is also on Apple's list of automakers that are committed to supporting its next-generation CarPlay platform.
