According to reports on the evening of April 13, Beijing time, Amazon today launched a cloud service called Bedock, which allows developers to use artificial intelligence systems similar to ChatGPT chat robots to further enhance their software.

The move shows that Amazon, as the largest provider of cloud computing services, will not cede huge business opportunities in generative artificial intelligence to competitors such as Google and Microsoft. As we all know, Microsoft and Google have begun to provide developers with large language models that can be used.

Through the Bedrock-generated artificial intelligence service, Amazon's cloud service AWS will provide developers with its own language model "Titan", as well as a language model from startups AI21 and Google-backed Anthropic. One Titan model can generate text for blog posts, emails, or other documents, while the other can help search and personalize.

Amazon's move coincides with the launch of GPT-4 by artificial intelligence startup OpenAI. A month ago, OpenAI released the latest version of GPT-4, a large language model that powers the chatbot ChatGPT. As the biggest competitor to Amazon's cloud business, Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in OpenAI and provided OpenAI with computing power through its Azure cloud service.

As we all know, Microsoft Bing search engine integrated with ChatGPT technology has a series of problems in the testing process, such as inaccurate information and so on. Bratin Saha, vice president of Amazon's cloud business, said today that Amazon is particularly concerned about accuracy and will ensure that the Titan model gives a high-quality response.

Amazon also said that customers will be able to customize the Titan model with their own data, but the data will never be used by Amazon to train the Titan model to ensure that other customers, including competitors, do not benefit from the data.

Amazon did not disclose the cost of the BedRock service because it is still in a "limited" trial stage. Customers can now add themselves to the waiting list, an Amazon spokesman said. By contrast, Microsoft and OpenAI have announced prices for GPT-4, starting at a few cents per 1000 Token (one Token equals four English characters). Similarly, Google has not yet announced the pricing of its Palm Language model.

Amazon has been studying artificial intelligence for more than 20 years, and its AWS cloud service has accumulated more than 100000 artificial intelligence customers. Amazon has also been using a fine-tuned version of Titan to provide search services through its home page.

Earlier today, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said in its 2022 shareholder letter that Amazon is investing heavily in large language models (LLM) and generative artificial intelligence.
