April 13 news, according to foreign media reports, data released by South Korea show that exports of semiconductors, panels, smartphones, computers and other products are still falling sharply in March compared with the same period last year, which also led to a sharp decline in their overall exports of information and communication technology (ICT) products in March.

According to data released by South Korea's Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology, South Korea's exports of ICT products in March were $15.8 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 108.704 billion yuan), down from $23.3 billion in the same period last year (currently about 160.304 billion yuan), down 32.2 percent from the same period last year.

South Korean data also show that exports of ICT products have fallen for nine consecutive months compared with the same period last year, from July last year to March.

Specifically, in March, semiconductor exports, which accounted for nearly half of South Korea's ICT exports, were US $8.7 billion, down 33.9% from the same period last year; smartphone exports were US $830 million, down 49.3% from the same period last year; panel exports were US $1.4 billion, down 41.4% from the same period last year; and computer exports were US $850 million, down 52.5% from the same period last year.

South Korean data show that imports also fell in March, when exports of information and communications technology products fell sharply from a year earlier, falling 7.9 per cent year-on-year to $11.9 billion in March, with a surplus of nearly $4 billion.
