Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

Thank you, Mr. Air, a netizen of CTOnews.com, for your clue delivery! On April 13, according to foreign media reports, after announcing the construction of factories in the United States and Japan, there was also news that TSMC was considering building factories in Europe, and their first fab in Europe might be built in Germany.

According to the latest reports from the relevant media, the factories that TSMC may build in Germany will adopt the same model as their factories in Japan and build joint ventures with local enterprises.

Foreign media quoted sources as saying that TSMC's German factory would adopt a joint venture model, and industry sources revealed that TSMC had decided to adopt a joint venture model.

TSMC's plant in Japan was announced on November 9, 2021, with Sony Semiconductor Solutions to set up a joint venture called Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd., in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. an initial plan is to invest US $7 billion to build a foundry. In February of the following year, they announced that the Japanese Denso company would buy shares, invest $350 million in the joint venture and acquire no more than 10 per cent of the shares.

But even if TSMC uses a joint venture model to build a plant in Germany, TSMC is likely to remain a major investor. In Japanese joint ventures, TSMC remains the majority shareholder after Denso took a stake, with a stake of more than 70%.

The news that TSMC is considering building a plant in Germany has been around since 2021. In December 2021, he Limei, TSMC's senior vice president in charge of Eurasian operations and now in charge of human resources, also revealed that they were in talks with Germany to build a factory, but had not yet made a decision.

Just as he Limei revealed at the time that they had not yet made a decision, the relevant media said in the latest reports that TSMC's plans were still uncertain, but sources said a decision would be made in the summer.
