According to news in the morning of April 13, Beijing time, IBM is reportedly considering selling its weather forecasting business, so the company will continue to focus on software and cloud services.

IBM is in preliminary talks to sell its weather forecasting business, but no agreement will be reached anytime soon, according to a person familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

In October 2015, IBM announced the acquisition of digital assets owned by weather forecasting company Weather, a move by the company to enter the then hot Internet of things market. Under the acquisition agreement, the division includes Weather Channel and Underground Weather applications and websites. But IBM did not disclose the exact amount of the acquisition. In January 2016, the company completed the merger and acquisition.

Since then, IBM has been seeking to reposition the company around cloud computing and spun off its traditional infrastructure services division, Kyndryl. Earlier this year, IBM said it would cut about 3900 jobs, mainly those left behind after the spin-off.
