Over the years, HBO has undergone several different rebranding efforts, and the previous HBO GO and HBO Now streaming services were merged into HBO Max in 2020. The streaming service changed its name again after the merger of Discovery and WarnerMedia in 2022. At the time of the merger, the newly formed Warner Brothers Discovery made it clear that HBO Max would eventually merge with Discovery+, and rumors in December last year also hinted at the name "Max".

CTOnews.com learned from an official press release that the Max streaming service will offer three different prices:

Max Ad-Lite:9.99 USD / month or US $99.99 / year (currently about RMB 69 / month or RMB 689 / year). Including 2 concurrent streams, 1080p resolution, no offline download, 5.1 surround sound quality, advertising.

Max Ad Free:15.99 USD / month or US $149.99 / year (currently about RMB110 / month or RMB1033 / year). Includes 2 concurrent streams, 1080p resolution, 30 offline downloads and 5.1 surround sound quality.

Max Ultimate Ad Free:19.99 USD / month or US $199.99 / year (currently about RMB138 / month or RMB1378 / year). Includes 4 concurrent streams, up to 4K UHD resolution, 100 offline downloads and Dolby panoramic sound quality (Dolby Atmos).

Existing HBO Max subscribers through HBO subscriptions will be able to access Max at the same price as HBO Max subscriptions, Warner Brothers said. Subscribers who subscribe through TV, mobile or wireless providers will be informed of price or plan changes.

The new streaming service "Max", scheduled for launch on May 23, will include HBO Max and Discovery TV content, such as HGTV, Food Network, ID, TLC and so on.

The launch of the service coincided with the announcement of a new Harry Potter series and another prequel to Game of Thrones.
