Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

April 11, according to a new survey, nearly half of Americans said they would still not list electric cars as their first willingness to buy, citing lack of charging infrastructure and high prices.

A poll conducted by the University of Chicago Energy Policy Institute and the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs found that 47 per cent of US adults said they were unlikely to buy an electric car as their next car. Only 19 per cent of respondents said they were "likely" or "very likely" to buy electric cars.

According to the survey, nearly 80 per cent of the public said lack of charging infrastructure was the main reason for their reluctance to buy electric cars, a concern common among residents in American cities, suburbs and remote rural areas.

"while there is a lot of interest in electric cars, the high upfront cost of owning electric vehicles and concerns about the charging infrastructure in the United States will affect more people driving electric vehicles," Jennifer Benz, deputy director of the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, said in a statement. "policies to ease concerns will be a key part of supporting the future development of the electric vehicle industry."

The findings come as the US government is aggressively boosting sales of electric vehicles and transforming the country towards clean energy. The US government has set targets to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate climate change, requiring electric vehicles to account for half of all cars sold on the market by 2030.

In February, the US government said it hoped to deploy 500000 electric vehicle charging posts on US roads by 2030, announcing a series of measures, including supporting companies such as Tesla, General Motors, Ford and ChargePoint to build and operate charging networks.

Meanwhile, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is expected to announce significant limits on vehicle emissions on Wednesday, which could make as many as 67 per cent of new car sales in the US in 2032 purely electric. Such restrictions would be the toughest climate regulations in the US to date and could pose challenges for traditional carmakers.

But the policy of increasing the number of electric vehicles on the road may not be popular across the United States. The survey found that only 35% of Americans support stricter vehicle emission regulations to encourage automakers to sell more electric vehicles, while only 27% of Americans support the requirement that all new cars sold in 2035 should be electric or hybrid.

To reduce the cost of buying and owning electric cars, 49 per cent of Americans support the US government to provide tax credits, cash subsidies or other financial incentives for the clean energy transformation, such as the inflation reduction Act (Inflation Reduction Act) introduced last year, which sets the standard for new electric vehicles, and consumers who buy corresponding models are eligible for a $7500 tax credit. Another 46% of Americans support increased government investment in building more electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The survey found that some Americans will choose to buy electric cars because of climate change. 35% of respondents believe that controlling personal carbon emissions is the main way to mitigate climate change, while another 31% believe that this is only a secondary reason.

The survey also found that about half of Americans think climate policy is important.

In addition, the survey, conducted from January 31 to February 15 this year, involved 5408 adults nationwide, with a sampling error of plus or minus 1.7 percentage points.
