Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com DSCC analyst Ross Young said yesterday that Apple has abandoned a new 27-inch display with mini-LED technology. It is said to be the second generation of Apple Studio Display, or a higher-end model in between it and Pro Display XDR.
However, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo disagreed, believing the product would eventually still be available. Production of the project is scheduled to begin in late 2024 or early 2025.
He said the display would include all the features "expected from a high-end display," possibly referring to 120Hz ProMotion support. In addition, it will use a new backplane material, which is different from the backplane commonly found in Apple's current line of products with screens.
Guo Mingxi said that the new glass backplane will make the panel thinner and the entire display frame thinner, thus making the overall chassis more fashionable and the product life can be longer.
Ross Young has previously said that the display will support ProMotion technology, which can achieve refresh rates of up to 120Hz. Considering the rumored 27-inch display, this monitor could be the next generation version of Studio Display, or it could be a new model located between Studio Display and the high-end Pro Display XDR.
The current Studio Display starts at $11,499 and has 5K resolution, but does not support ProMotion technology. Apple released the Studio Display in March 2022 alongside Mac Studio, and the display hasn't had any hardware updates since its launch. Assuming Apple launches the 27-inch mini-LED display in 2025, that would mean no updates to the line for about three years.
Of course, Apple's Pro Display XDR, launched in 2019, should get an update, possibly with the new Mac Pro. Previously, there was also evidence that Apple's 7K resolution display was already in development, but it's unclear when it will be released, and CTOnews.com will keep an eye on it.
