But uninstalling apps means losing app icons and personal data that you might want to reuse one day. Now Google has introduced a new feature for Android that lets you keep apps and save space.

This new feature is automatic archiving. The idea is that when you rarely use an app, it automatically removes parts of the app from your device, leaving app icons and user data. In this way, the storage space of an application can be reduced by nearly 60%. If you want to use the app again, just click on the icon to download it again (if the app is still available on the Google Store).

Archived app icons will have a cloud download logo to use this feature, you need to actively select on. The specific steps are as follows:

When you want to install a new app, if your device is low on storage space, a window pops up asking if you want to enable auto-archiving.

If you choose to enable it, some of the infrequently used apps on your device will be automatically archived, making room for new apps.

CTOnews.com understands that only infrequently used apps are archived. For developers, if you want your app to support automatic archiving, you must use the App Bundle format. Google says apps that support this feature are less likely to be uninstalled by users.
