Data show that retail sales in the passenger car market reached 1.587 million in March 2023, an increase of 0.3 percent over the same period last year and 14.3 percent month-on-month. Retail sales grew 14.3 per cent month-on-month in March, the weakest month-on-month growth since the turn of the century.
In March this year, wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 617000, up 35.2% from the same period last year, and 24.5% from January to March. Wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 1.501 million, up 25.8% from the same period last year.
According to the data, the domestic retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 543000 in March this year, an increase of 21.9% over the same period last year, and 23.6% month-on-month growth. From January to March, domestic retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 1.313 million, an increase of 22.4% over the same period last year.

1) Wholesale: the wholesale penetration rate of new energy vehicle manufacturers in March was 31%, an increase of 6 percentage points from 25.1% in March 2022. In March, the penetration rate of independent brand new energy vehicles was 46.4%; the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in luxury cars was 36%; while that of mainstream joint venture brands was only 3.7%. The wholesale sales of pure electric vehicles in March were 453000, up 22.1% from the same period last year and 30.6% from the same period last year. Plug-in hybrid sales were 164000, up 92.1% from the same period last year, 10.3% from the previous month, and 27% from new energy vehicles, an increase of 8 points over the same period. Sales of Class B electric vehicles in March were 145000, up 29 per cent from a year earlier and 20 per cent month-on-month, accounting for 32 per cent of pure electric vehicles. The A00+A0 class economical electric vehicle market in the pure electric market is rising, of which the wholesale sales of Class A00 are 57000, down 52% from the same period last year, up 42% from the previous month, accounting for 13% of the pure electric, down 19 percentage points from the same period last year; the A0 wholesale sales are 133000, accounting for 29% of the pure electric, with a share increase of 14 percentage points compared with the same period last year; A-class electric vehicles are 109000, accounting for 24% of the pure electric share. The sales volume of electric vehicles at all levels is relatively divided.

Among them, new energy ranks in the top 4 of overall passenger car sales, and its dominant position is obvious.
2) Retail: the domestic retail penetration rate of new energy vehicles in March was 34.2%, up 6 percentage points from 28.1% in the same period last year. In March, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in independent brands was 54.7%, that of luxury cars was 33.6%, and that of new energy vehicles in mainstream joint venture brands was only 5.3%. In terms of monthly domestic retail share, the retail share of mainstream independent brands of new energy vehicles in March was 67%, up 6% from the same period last year; the share of joint venture brand new energy vehicles was 5.8%, up 0.8% from the same period last year; the share of new power was 10.4%, down 6.6% from the same period last year; Tesla's share was 14.1%, which was relatively stable.
3) Export: 70000 new energy passenger cars were exported in March, of which pure electric accounted for 94.3% of pure electric exports accounted for 55% of new energy. With the scale advantage and market expansion demand of China's new energy, more and more brands of Chinese-made new energy products go abroad, and their recognition abroad continues to improve, as well as the continuous improvement of the service network. as a result, the export market of new energy is still improving and the prospect is promising. In terms of manufacturers' exports in March, there are 23654 SAIC passenger cars, 13312 BYD, 12206 Tesla China, 5664 Dongfeng E-Jet, 4693 Great Wall cars, 3727 Nezha cars, 2658 smart motors, 1170 Geely vehicles, 564 Chery vehicles, 517Skyworth vehicles, 388 Jianghuai vehicles, 366 SAIC GM Wuling, 240FAW Red Flag, 164Dongfeng passenger vehicles, and 140SAIC Chase. From the overseas market retail data monitoring of independent exports, A0-class electric cars account for 60% of Prida, which is the absolute main force of exports. SAIC and other independent brands have a strong performance in Europe. In addition to the beautiful performance of traditional export car companies, the recent export of new forces has also been gradually launched, and overseas markets have also begun to show data.
4) Automobile enterprises: in March, new energy passenger car enterprises split up due to the Spring Festival and subsidy withdrawal and other factors. BYD pure electric and plug-in doubles drive consolidate the leading position of independent brand new energy; traditional car companies represented by Changan, SAIC, Guangzhou Automobile and Geely are particularly tenacious in the new energy sector. In terms of product launch, with the multi-line development of independent car companies on the new energy route, the market base continues to expand, and the number of manufacturers' wholesale sales exceeding 10,000 vehicles has rebounded to 11 (an increase from the previous month and 2 less than the same period last year), accounting for 80.7% of the total number of new energy passenger vehicles (83.1% last month and 80.2% in the same period last year). Among them: 206089 from BYD, 88869 from Tesla China, 40016 from Guangzhou Auto E'an, 33484 from Changan, 31154 from SAIC, 28093 from Geely, 20823 from ideal, 15,880 from SAIC-GM Wuling, 13155 from Great Wall, 10,378 from Lulai and 1, 087 from Naha.
5) New forces: the retail share of new forces in March was 10.4%, down 6.6 percentage points from the same period last year; sales of new forces such as Ulay and ideal are still strong year-on-year and month-on-month performance as a whole, but some car companies with excellent performance take advantage of the decline in lithium carbonate prices to take the initiative to slow down and adjust, and gain momentum. Among the mainstream joint venture brands, North and South Volkswagen is strong in the lead, with 12884 new energy vehicles wholesale, accounting for more than 50% of the mainstream joint venture pure electric, and Volkswagen's firm electric transformation strategy is beginning to bear fruit. Other joint ventures and luxury brands still need to be launched.
6) General mix: 57003 ordinary hybrid passenger cars were wholesale in March, down 24% from the same period last year and up 6% month-on-month. Among them, Toyota 27397, Honda 20584, Chuanqi 4112, Nissan 1405, Dongfeng 2774, Geely 2774, SAIC GM Wuling 163. the independent brand of hybrid power is gradually strengthening.
