According to sources, Samsung is secretly developing a new generation of mobile chip called Exynos 2500, which will run on Samsung's own GPU, but will also use AMD technology. This is another collaboration between Samsung and AMD after Exynos 2200. The Exynos 2200 is the first Xclipse 920 GPU chip based on AMD RDNA2 architecture, but its performance is not satisfactory.

Samsung is working with AMD to develop GPU for the Exynos 2500 chip, which is based on AMD technology and is particularly focused on optimization, according to whistleblower Revegnus.

The new SoC is said to be designed for Galaxy smartphones, suggesting that Samsung will eventually stop relying on Qualcomm. To do this, however, chips that can compete with other competitors must be developed. Moreover, Samsung currently lags behind TSMC in wafer foundry. However, there are rumors that mass-produced chips using the second generation 3nm GAA process will appear in the second half of 2024, and Samsung can use its advanced chip manufacturing technology to build Exynos 2500 chips, but it is not clear which node will be used.

As for the optimization mentioned in the tweet, it may be related to improved power efficiency, where the Exynos 2200 chip does not perform well, and although its ray-tracing performance is better than that of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, battery life is sometimes more important than the powerful GPU performance. However, it will take several years for the new Samsung GPU to take shape, and before it, there are still Exynos 2400 chips to look forward to.
