According to CTOnews.com news on April 9, Tesla recently announced that it has voluntarily recalled some Model 3 electric vehicles in the United States because of defects in the lateral connecting rod of the front suspension, which may lead to vehicle instability and increase the risk of collision.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the defect is due to the fact that the two fasteners may be loose over time, resulting in the separation of the lateral connecting rod from the subframe. An estimated 422 vehicles are affected and the production date is between January 5, 2018 and March 30, 2019.

NHTSA is described as follows:

If the fastener becomes loose enough or separated from the subframe so that the lateral connecting rod is separated from the subframe, the wheel alignment may shift and cause instability, which may adversely affect the controllability of the vehicle and increase the risk of collision.

Tesla said that since January 2019, it has received 25 warranty claims and 2 on-site reports related to or possibly related to the issue, but has not received any reports of accidents, injuries or deaths related to the issue. The company also said the recall was an extension of the same recall in 2021, when it involved nearly 2800 2019-2021 Model 3 and 2020-2021 Model Y vehicles.

According to CTOnews.com, Tesla will notify the affected owners to send the vehicle to Tesla service center for inspection, and technicians will tighten or replace the fasteners that fix the front suspension lateral connecting rod according to the specification. If the vehicle damage caused by loose or missing fasteners is found during the inspection, Tesla Service Center will be responsible for replacing the damaged parts.
