CTOnews.com, April 9 (Xinhua)-- vehicles owned by General Motors' self-driving taxi division Cruise have been "recalled" after they collided with a bus earlier this week. To solve this problem, Cruise remotely upgraded its 300 self-driving vehicles to prevent a similar situation from happening again.

The accident occurred earlier this week when a Cruise self-driving car collided with a bus in San Francisco, causing minor damage to the Cruise vehicle, but no one was injured, Reuters reported. Cruise says this is because the self-driving car mispredicted the route of the bus.

Cruise, a subsidiary of General Motors, specializes in developing and testing self-driving technology. The company was founded by Kyle Vogt and Dan Kan in 2013 and was acquired by General Motors in 2016. Currently, the company operates a number of L3 self-driving taxis in the San Francisco area of California under the brand name Cruise.

Kyle Vogt, CEO of Cruise, gave a detailed account of the accident in a blog post. At the time of the accident, the bus drove in front of the Cruise taxi about a block ago, and the taxi followed the bus and continued to follow the original route, he said. When the bus suddenly stopped, the autopilot didn't stop in time and hit the back of the bus at a speed of about 10 miles an hour.

Vogt says such accidents are rare in their self-driving cars, and the last such accident was in early 2022. 'This is an opportunity for them to pay more attention to safety and improve products,'he said.

According to CTOnews.com, GM plans to launch more cars that support its L2 "SuperCruise" autopilot system in the near future. Although the autopilot system is far less capable than the taxis offered by Cruise in California, they can be used as a harbinger of the efforts of the largest US carmaker in the field of self-driving.
