CTOnews.com, April 7 (Xinhua)-- Apple currently has cash reserves of more than $165 billion (CTOnews.com Note: about 1.14 trillion yuan), according to Bloomberg. Given Apple's current slowdown, Bloomberg believes the world's most valuable company will start a large-scale acquisition.

Unlike big acquisitions such as Microsoft and Amazon, Apple is more likely to buy small startups. Apple prefers to cultivate and incubate acquisitions, and Apple will patiently wait for these start-ups to grow to pry into new markets.

Apple spent $306 million on business acquisitions in fiscal 2022 (CTOnews.com note: currently about 2.105 billion yuan), down from $1.5 billion in fiscal year 2020 (CTOnews.com note: currently about 10.32 billion yuan). Apple chose not to disclose details of such acquisitions in its latest quarterly results.

Instead of buying indiscriminately, Apple returns most of the excess cash to shareholders through share buybacks and dividends. Apple's expenses shared with shareholders in fiscal 2022 totaled more than $100 billion. As of December 31, Apple still had $165 billion in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities.

Logan Purk, an analyst at Edward Jones, a US financial services company, says Apple is good at making small acquisitions and succeeding with incremental acquisitions.
