Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, April 6, IBM announced that the new IBM Z16 and IBM LinuxONE Rockhopper 4 are designed to provide a modern and flexible hybrid cloud platform to support digital transformation in multiple IT environments. Compared with x86 servers running in similar conditions and locations, consolidating Linux workloads on IBM LinuxONE Rockhopper 4 can reduce energy consumption by 75 percent and space by 67 percent.
The new single cabinet (single frame) versions of IBM Z16 and IBM LinuxONE 4 extend their capabilities to a wider range of data center environments. These two products are based on IBM Telum processors to create sustainable and efficient data centers.
The IBM Z16 multi-cabinet version was launched in April 2022 and supports large-scale real-time AI reasoning and quantum security encryption. IBM LinuxONE Emperor 4, launched in September 2022, reduces energy consumption and data center footprint while providing scalability, performance, and security. The new stand-alone cabinet expands the customer's choice of IT infrastructure and has advantages in terms of space, sustainability, and standardization.
The new IBM Z16 and LinuxONE 4 products are designed to build modern data centers to optimize their flexibility and sustainability, with partition-level power monitoring and other environmental metrics. For example, consolidating Linux workloads on IBM LinuxONE Rockhopper 4 can reduce energy consumption by 75% and space by 67% * compared to x86 servers running in similar conditions and locations.
Note *: the IBM 3932 Max 68 model for comparison consists of CPC drawers and I / O drawers to support network and external storage, with 68 IFL and 7 TB memory per rack, compared with 1440 cores for 36 x86 servers (2 Skylake Xeon gold chips, 40 cores). The power consumption of the IBM 3932 Max 68 model is confirmed by the exclusively configured IBM Power estimator. The x86 power value is based on the February 2023 IDC QPI power value, which is reduced to 55% based on IBM measurements of x86 servers and field observations. By contrast, x86 servers use about 0.6083 kilowatt hours, or 55% of the watt value of the IDC QPI system. The savings assume that the global data center power utilization efficiency (PUE) is 1.55 to calculate the additional power required for cooling. Three racks are required for x86 system space calculation. The results may vary depending on the customer's specific usage and location.
After the customer equips the data center with the above products, new usage scenarios will be created, including:
Sustainable design: easier integration into hot and cold aisle thermal management data centers that use common power and cooling devices.
Optimized AI solution: with the help of on-chip AI reasoning and the latest IBM z / OS 3.1, customers can train or deploy AI models very close to data and optimize them continuously, whether in single-cabinet or multi-cabinet configurations.
Data privacy: protect the data sovereignty of regulated industries through compliance and regulatory restrictions on where the data is located, thereby improving rack efficiency when processing local transactions in the local data center.
Edge computing: achieve higher utilization in limited rack space near manufacturing, medical devices, or other edge devices.
IBM Z16 and LinuxONE 4 are designed to provide the highest level of reliability in the industry (CTOnews.com Note: 99.9999999% availability) to support key workloads in the customer's journey to the hybrid cloud. Such high availability helps companies protect consumer access to bank accounts, medical records and personal data. In the face of security threats, the new versions of the above two products have functions such as secret computing, centralized key management and quantum security encryption, which can prevent network attackers from implementing the "harvest first, decryption later" plan.
From May 17, 2023, the IBM Z16 and LinuxONE 4 stand-alone cabinet versions (with LinuxONE Expert Care support) will be officially available worldwide. IBM Expert Care integrates hardware and software support services into a hierarchical support model to help organizations choose the right services. This technical support service will increase the predictability of maintenance costs and reduce deployment and operational risks.
