Steam said that this change was made because the core functionality in Steam depends on embedded Google Chrome, which is no longer applicable to older versions of macOS. In addition, future versions of Steam will need new features and security updates in macOS 10.13 and later.

According to reports, Apple has completed security updates and technical support for macOS 10.11 and macOS 10.12 in 2018 and 2019.
