CTOnews.com, April 5 (Xinhua)-- Nvidia and CDPR have previously announced that they will launch "Overdrive mode" for "Cyberpunk 2077" ray tracing, which brings panoramic ray tracing (also known as "path tracing") to "cyber punk: 2077", which greatly improves the ray tracing effect.

Yesterday, Nvidia officially released a real-machine demonstration and comparison video of "Cyberpunk 2077" panoramic ray tracing, which was recorded by RTX 4090 + DLSS 3. CTOnews.com partners can see the difference between the two ray tracing technologies in the video.

Nvidia says panoramic ray tracing can model the ray properties of almost any number of self-illuminating light sources, creating physically correct shadows, reflections, and global illumination on all objects.

"Cyberpunk 2077" RayTracing: a technical preview of Overdrive mode will be launched on April 11 and will support panoramic RayTracing and performance multiplier with DLSS 3.

It is also the fourth game to acquire real-time path tracking technology after Minecraft, Portal and Quake.

▲ "portal RTX" ray tracing and path tracing are two popular methods in computer graphics to simulate the behavior of light in a virtual environment. RayTracing is a deterministic process that involves tracing the path of rays and their interactions. This technique requires a lot of processing power, and the advantage is that it can generate high-quality images with accurate reflections, refractions and shadows.

Path tracing, by contrast, is a randomly calculated process that involves sampling the ray path as it passes through the scene. The computational cost of this technique is lower than that of ray tracing, but it produces image noise and requires multiple iterations to converge to high-quality results. Path tracking is commonly used in applications that require accurate physical simulation of light, such as architectural visualization and product design.
