CTOnews.com, April 5 (Xinhua) according to the 2023 Global Billionaires list released by Forbes magazine on its Chinese website on the 4th, French luxury giant Bernard Arnault has become the new richest man in the world this year, with a personal wealth of about 211 billion US dollars. Tesla CEO Elon Musk fell to second place, while Amazon founder Jeff Bezos ranked third.

The number of people on the 2023 Forbes global billionaire list fell 28 places from last year to a total of only 2640. The total wealth of those on the list this year reached $12.2 trillion, down from $12.7 trillion last year.

Elon Musk's personal wealth, which was bought for $44 billion last October and then hit by a collapse in Tesla's share price, fell 18% to $180 billion. The change has made Bernard Arnault, a French luxury giant, the new richest man in the world this year, with a personal fortune of about $211 billion. Bezos now has a net worth of $57 billion (392.1 billion yuan) less than in March last year, but remains at $114 billion, making him the third richest man in the world.

Of all the billionaires on the list, the United States ranks first in the world with 736. The Chinese mainland region is not far behind, with 52nd millionaires.

In this year's list, the performance of mainland China's rich has fallen slightly. The number of mainland Chinese billionaires fell for the second year in a row in Forbes' 37th annual list of global billionaires. Among the people on the list this year, the number of mainland Chinese is 495, down from 539 last year and a record 626 in 2021.

In spite of this, mainland China still has the second largest number of billionaires in the world after the United States. Forbes has conducted separate statistics on the number of rich people in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in China.

Due to the weak stock market, the wealth of mainland China tycoons totaled $1.67 trillion, down from $1.96 trillion last year and $2.5 trillion in 2021. Compared with last year's list, 76 people fell off the list, 16 were on the list for the first time and 14 returned to the list.

The total wealth of the top 10 mainland Chinese reached $311 billion, down from $322 billion in 2022 and $447 billion in 2021. At present, the total wealth of billionaires in mainland China accounts for 13.6% of the total wealth of the world's billionaires. There are a total of 2640 billionaires on the list, with a total wealth of $12.2 trillion.

Zhong Kui, the king of bottled water and chairman of Nongfu Spring, is still the richest man in China, becoming the richest man in China for the third year. Zhong has a fortune of about $68 billion, up from $65.7 billion last year. He ranks 15th on the list of the world's billionaires.

In addition to Zhong, there are also four mainland Chinese tycoons who achieved wealth growth last year. Among them, Huang Zheng, founder of e-commerce company Pinduoduo, stood out, with his wealth rising to $30.2 billion from $11.3 billion last year. Pinduoduo's share price has more than doubled after the successful introduction of low-cost cross-border e-commerce platform Temu to the US market.

In addition, the wealth growth was achieved by Xu Yangtian, the founder of fashion e-commerce company Shein, whose wealth nearly doubled to $10.5 billion. The wealth of Robin Li, founder, chairman and chief executive of Baidu, also increased from $700m to $7.7 billion.
