Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, April 5 (Xinhua)-- Apple last week launched iPadOS 16.4 and macOS Ventura 13.3 system updates to all iPad and Mac users, bringing some changes and new features. Unfortunately, these updates have also led to failures of Universal Control and Handoff functions for many users.
Universal Control (Universal Control) allows you to control multiple iPad and Mac with a set of mice, keyboards and trackpads. You can seamlessly move the cursor and keyboard between different devices, and use iCloud to infer the location of the device based on your cursor movement.
Apple claims that this feature can be enabled automatically, and the only requirement is that the device logs in with the same iCloud account. It relies on Apple's Handoff technology, which allows you to start working on one device and then switch to another nearby device.
In a post on Apple's support forum, there was a collection of complaints from iPad and Mac users that Universal Control did not work properly after being updated to iPadOS 16.4 and macOS Ventura 13.3. These users said the feature was working until Apple released the update.
For some users, these issues also affect other features that rely on Handoff technology, such as generic copy and paste and Apple Watch unlocking. One user wrote:
IOS 16.4 and Ventura 13.3 spoiled the Universal Control functionality of my 27-inch iMac and iPad Pro, which worked seamlessly before the update. And my iMac can't be unlocked with Apple Watch 6 now. IMac can't connect (synchronize) my watch either. Thank you, Apple. How can we solve this problem?
Another user said:
I have the same problem. And it doesn't work to control Apple TV by typing text on iPhone. My Apple Watch can't unlock my Mac. The Handoff function seems to have completely failed.
Users say they can temporarily solve the problem by rebooting all the devices involved and turning on and off the Handoff function in the settings application on each device. However, this is only a temporary solution, and having to take these steps shows that something is wrong.
Apple is rumored to be preparing to launch iOS 16.4.1 and iPadOS 16.4.1, which could be updated within this week. Ideally, these updates will fix the failures of the Handoff and Universal Control features introduced last week.
