Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

On the morning of April 5, Beijing time, it was reported that Twitter suffered another lawsuit on Tuesday, local time. The plaintiffs allege that the social media giant illegally dismissed outsourced contractors without prior notice after it was acquired by Elon Musk last year. This shows that the impact of Twitter's previous large-scale layoffs is still simmering.

The class action lawsuit has been filed in federal court in San Francisco. The lawsuit alleges that Twitter fired a large number of outsourced staff sent by TEKSystems, the human resources company, in November last year, but did not give 60 days prior notice as required by US national and California laws.

The court is also hearing five other cases accusing Twitter of violating labor laws, laying off staff against female employees and discriminating against disabled employees. In response, Twitter denied any wrongdoing.

In early November, Twitter cut about 3700 jobs, or half of its workforce, as a cost-cutting measure taken by Mr Musk. Musk had previously bought Twitter for $44 billion. Since then, hundreds of employees have resigned.

Twitter and Maryland-based TEKSystems were listed as defendants in the lawsuit. The two companies have yet to respond.

Sharon Rees-Riordan, who represented the plaintiff in all these cases, said in an email: "while Musk seems to think that he has saved the company money by evading these obligations, we plan to show him that if he fails to meet his responsibilities, he may pay a higher price."

She also filed a complaint in private arbitration on behalf of more than 1700 former Twitter employees and outsourced employees who signed agreements with the company to resolve labor disputes through arbitration, she said. At the same time, TEKSystems's outsourced staff did not sign such an agreement.

Reese-Riordan also represents employees who have complained to the U.S. Labor Commission about Twitter. The employees claimed that they had been fired for criticizing the company, trying to organize strikes and other actions protected by federal labor laws.

Twitter has yet to respond to the allegations.
