Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, April 5 (Xinhua)-- Apple's senior sales executive, Doug Baker, is leaving Apple to join the U.S. Department of Defense for a senior position, Bloomberg reported April 4. This is another important executive that Apple has recently lost.
The Defense Department confirmed the news in a statement on Tuesday and praised Baker's nearly 15 years of work at Apple. Baker joined Apple in 2009 and has been reporting directly to CEO Tim Cook. During that time, Baker helped lead Apple's global operations and managed Apple's operations in Asia and the Americas.
The Pentagon also said Baker had "more than 15 years of experience living and working across Asia, including Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore and Indonesia." Before joining Apple, Baker served as a reserve captain in the U.S. Navy and was involved in military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"We support Doug's public service and wish him all the best," Apple said in a statement. " Baker is reported to be one of "fewer than 20" executives who report directly to Cook. However, his departure is undoubtedly another big loss for Apple. The company has lost a number of executives in areas such as industrial design, hardware and software engineering, procurement, emerging market sales, subscription and cloud services, online retail and information systems in recent months.
Another Apple executive, Michael Abbott (Michael Abbott), who was in charge of iCloud and other Apple online services such as FaceTime and iMessage, has also announced that he will leave the company later this month. Earlier, Apple's vice president of services, Peter Stern (Peter Stern) also announced his departure plan.
While some executives left Apple voluntarily, others are about to lose their jobs. Despite efforts to avoid mass layoffs, Apple is about to cut some jobs from its retail team. Although the number of layoffs is said to be "small", it also shows that even Apple is affected by the current global economic situation.
According to CTOnews.com, Apple had 164000 employees in the last fiscal quarter.
