CTOnews.com, April 4, DSCC recently released a report on high-end smartphone display shipments and technology, revealing more details and insights on the results of OLED smartphones in 2022, as well as the latest forecasts for 2027. Shipments of OLED smartphone panels fell 7 per cent year-on-year to 587 million units in 2022, while revenue fell 1 per cent to $32 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 220.16 billion yuan).

Apple accounted for seven of the top 10 best-selling models in sales and revenue in 2022. Apple iPhone 13 took the lead with 8 per cent in 2022, followed by iPhone 14 Pro Max and Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 and Redmi Note 11 series. These 10 models account for about 45% of panel shipments in 2022. Apple's iPhone 14 Pro Max led the 2022 smartphone revenue rankings with 11%, followed by iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max. These 10 models account for about 58% of smartphone revenue in 2022.

As more panel suppliers' LTPO capacity meets the conditions for mass production, the LTPO backplane continues to gain share. LTPO penetration rose from 10 per cent in 2021 to 23 per cent in 2022. The report expects LTPO to continue to grow and achieve more than 40% of its share and 60% of equipment revenue during the forecast period. The growth in LTPO is the result of higher refresh rates and the strong demand shown by AOD. Apple introduced LTPO panel technology on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max in 2021. In 2025, as LTPO capacity continues to rise and costs fall, DSCC expects Apple to use LTPO panels on all iPhone 17 series models.

In the 2022 Q4, Apple accounted for four of the top five best-selling models in terms of shipments and revenue. IPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro have a 25 per cent share of shipments and 38 per cent of revenue.

For Q1 in 2023, the top five models are expected to be Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and Samsung A54. The five models are expected to account for 39% of shipments and 50% of smartphone revenue.
