CTOnews.com, April 4 (Xinhua)-- China's first integrated hyperspectral observation satellite for ecological environment (Gaofen No.02) was officially put into use today, after two years of in-orbit testing, CCTV reported.
According to reports, after the satellite is delivered in orbit, it will play an important supporting role in China's remote sensing monitoring of the atmosphere, water, natural ecology, and other ecological environment, so as to improve the ability to deal with environmental pollution events, natural disaster monitoring and emergency response, and improve the level of environmental supervision.
According to previous reports from CTOnews.com, the satellite was launched on September 7, 2021 and operated in a solar synchronous orbit using the mature SAST3000 satellite platform of the Shanghai Institute of Aerospace Technology. The satellite is equipped with seven detection instruments, covering the spectrum from ultraviolet to long-wave infrared, which combines imaging technology and hyperspectral detection technology, and can realize the comprehensive observation of spatial information, spectral information and radiation information.
Officials say it can rely on more than 4000 hyperspectral remote sensing detection channels, and hyperspectral observation satellites will expand from geometry and color perception to spectral information, opening up a new perspective for remote sensing observation in China.
It is worth mentioning that on March 28, NASA released the first batch of hyperspectral comprehensive observation satellite image results, including global ozone column concentration monitoring map, global nitrogen dioxide column concentration monitoring map, brightness temperature monitoring map, sea ice monitoring map, hyperspectral data cube map and other hyperspectral data images. This paper shows the application of hyperspectral comprehensive observation satellite in greenhouse gas detection, quantitative remote sensing monitoring of inland water quality, fine classification of ground features, investigation of mineral resources and so on.
