CTOnews.com, April 4 (Xinhua) South Korean President Yoon Seok-Yue said he visited Samsung display's factory in Yashan Park on Tuesday and witnessed a new large-scale investment agreement between the company and manufacturers of materials, parts and equipment.

Samsung yesterday held a ceremony at the Asan park, 87 kilometers south of Seoul, announcing that it would invest 4.1 trillion won (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 21.443 billion yuan) to upgrade its production line for OLED panels for tablets, laptops and other IT devices as part of Samsung's five semiconductor manufacturing bases by 2026, Yonhap news agency reported.

According to the source, the production line is scheduled for production in 2026, when it will become the world's first OLED production line substituted for IT equipment.

The company also announced plans to improve the competitiveness of domestic display materials, components and equipment manufacturers in South Korea through joint technology development, production innovation and advance payment of orders.

Mr Yin said the investment plan paved the way for a "new leap" in the industry and pledged to help the OLED industry maintain its number one position in the global market by expanding investment incentives and supporting research and development of OLED technology upgrades.

Tuesday's ceremony marked the first realization of the government's plan to attract more than 550 trillion won of private investment in six core cutting-edge industries by 2026, according to the South Korean president's office of Tuyuan Pexels.

It is reported that Samsung will invest about 300 trillion won (currently about 1.57 trillion yuan) to build five semiconductor manufacturing bases in South Korea to build the world's largest semiconductor manufacturing base, and attract as many as 300 trillion materials, components and equipment manufacturers, IC design plants and semiconductor R & D institutions.
