PS5 sales varied by region, with 14.24 million units sold in North America, 10.26 million units sold in Europe, 2.98 million units sold in Japan and 6.06 million units sold elsewhere. By comparison, the N64 sold 20.11 million units in North America, 6.35 million units in Europe, 5.54 million units in Japan and 930,000 units elsewhere.

VGChartz also released Microsoft's console sales figures, but there is still a big gap compared to PS5, Xbox Series X| Since its launch in November 2020, S has sold 20.85 million units cumulatively. Currently, the Nintendo Switch remains the best-selling console of the current generation, with total sales reaching 123 million units, and this number will continue to grow with the launch of new products such as the new Switch OLED and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
