After Tesla cut prices by as much as 20 per cent in January, Tesla delivered a record 422875 vehicles in the first quarter, but only 4 per cent higher than in the previous quarter. Several analysts said the figures raised questions. There are concerns about whether Tesla needs to cut prices further this year to meet CEO Elon Musk's target of delivering 2 million vehicles in 2023.

Tesla shares fell 6.12%. Bernstein analyst Tony Sacconaghi (Toni Sacconaghi), an investment bank, wrote in a report after the release of the report: "many investors believe that Tesla's recent price cuts reflect its structural cost advantage, which allows it to put pressure on competitors, generate huge sales and dominate the electric car market. As of Monday's close, Tesla shares fell $12.69, or 6.12%, to $194.77, wiping out $40.1 billion (275.8 billion yuan) in market value, leaving $616.3 billion.
