CTOnews.com April 4 news, market research firm Canalys pointed out in its latest report that the PC (desktops, notebooks, and workstations) market in Western Europe shipped 10.7 million units in the fourth quarter of 2022, down 38 percent from the same period last year.

Laptop shipments were the worst, with 8.6 million units shipped, down 40% from the fourth quarter of 2021; desktop shipments were 2.1 million, down 29% from a year earlier; and tablet shipments were 6.6 million, down 17% from a year earlier.

Shipments of PC and tablets fell 21% and 18%, respectively, in 2022. Canalys expects Western European markets to decline further in 2023 and is expected to return to growth in the last quarter of this year.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that manufacturers including Lenovo, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Apple and Asustek all showed a significant decline in shipments in the fourth quarter of 2022. The overall decline was 38.5%, of which Hewlett-Packard was the worst, down 42.8%, Dell was down 42.4%, and Apple was the lightest, with a drop of 22.8%.
