CTOnews.com Starting with the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, Apple has applied new LTPO technology to the iPhone for the first time.

A new report released today by Ross Young, founder of supply chain consulting firm DSCC, claims that in the next few years, this feature will only exist on "Pro" iPhones, possibly introducing non-Pro series in 2025.

He also gave a "road map" of his own predictions, detailing plans for iPhone display technology by 2027...

Non-Pro iPhone Series:

The Pro iPhone series uses LTPO display technology:

2026: Underscreen Face ID + Punch

2027: Underscreen Face ID + Underscreen Camera

In short, LTPO is a custom OLED display that supports variable refresh rates, which Apple calls "ProMotion" display technology.

As CTOnews.com readers might expect, only the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max feature ProMotion technology in this generation, while the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus only have a static refresh rate of 60Hz.

The DSCC analyst said Apple would introduce LTPO to the entire iPhone range. "By 2025, all Apple iPhone 17 models are expected to feature LTPO panels as LTPO capacity continues to rise and costs fall. "

This means LTPO technology and related features like ProMotion and Always-On may remain exclusive to high-end Pro iPhone models until 2025.
