Geely Holdings Group and Malaysia DRB-HICOM Group signed a framework agreement to deepen cooperation, and the two sides will carry out more extensive and in-depth cooperation around the construction of Malaysia's Danrong Marin Automobile High-tech Valley to help the development of Malaysia's new energy vehicle industry.

CTOnews.com learned from officials that Geely Holdings bought a stake in Proton Motor of DRB-HICOM in Malaysia in 2017, was responsible for the overall operation and management of Proton Motor, and launched the "Big Dipper Seven Star Strategy." Proton car sales have risen for four consecutive years, from 64744 in 2018 to 141432 in 2022, up 118% and turning a profit.

By the end of 2022, Proton Motor had tripled its operating income and ranked second in Malaysia in terms of market sales and market share for four consecutive years, while overseas export sales ranked first.

Proton's first hybrid (Mild Hybrid) model LaCrosse (Proton X90) is about to go on sale. Meanwhile, smart, owned by Geely Holdings, has signed an agency agreement with Proton to launch its first electric car, smart # 1, in the Malay market in the fourth quarter of 2023.
