At the Memcom 2023 event, AMD announced that it is currently working with JEDEC to develop DDR5 MRDIMM standard memory with a target transfer rate of 17600 MT / s.

The full name of MRDIMM is Multi-Ranked Buffered DIMMs (multilevel buffer DIMM), which converts two DDR5 DIMM into a single QDR, thus providing double data transfer rate.

According to the exposure data, DDR5 MRDIMM Gen1 will be upgraded to 8800 MT / s MRDIMM Gen2 to 12800 MT / s DDR5 MRDIMM Gen3 will be upgraded to 17600 MT / s after 2030.

At this stage, AMD plans to take the lead in using DDR5 MRDIMM memory in the data center, but it is not clear on which product it will start, and it is expected to take longer to devolve it to personal computers.
