Kelvin (K) is the temperature unit in the International System of Units. 1234.93 K is equal to 961.78℃. In ITS-90, the temperature scale above 961.78℃ (1234.93 K) is defined and realized based on Planck's law of blackbody radiation. All high temperature values need to be traced back to the high temperature standard reproduced in this definition.

The original (1234.93~2473) K temperature reference device in China depends on the value of tungsten ribbon lamp, the fixed point is only silver point (961.78℃), and the highest temperature can only reach 2200℃ (2474 K). It can not meet the traceability requirements of fine industry and ultra-high temperature material research for higher accuracy and higher range of high temperature measurement.

The newly approved (1234.93~3020) K temperature reference device adds four new high temperature fixed points such as cobalt-carbon and platinum-carbon. The upper limit of the measurement range is extended from 2200℃ (2474 K) to 2747℃ (3020 K), and the measurement accuracy is better than 1℃. The uncertainty is equivalent to the international first echelon level. It can meet the measurement requirements of various types of high temperature sensors (such as the ultra-high temperature material test on the surface of the spacecraft).

Modern high temperature measurement is more widely used in steel, energy, advanced manufacturing, new materials and aerospace fields, such as accurate control and monitoring of temperature in high temperature furnace is related to steel quality, energy consumption and so on. In these applications, the emergence of various types of high temperature sensors for high temperature measurement constantly put forward higher requirements, its accurate and reliable value is one of the key factors to ensure the quality of industrial production and reduce energy consumption.

(1234.93~3020) K temperature reference device has expanded the unit value reproduction range of high temperature temperature scale in China, ensured the accuracy and reliability of temperature value in high temperature range in China, and has important significance for improving the calibration system quality of high temperature sensors in China and promoting the development of industry and science and technology. The reference device has participated in the international key comparison of high temperature values (CCT-K10) of the International Advisory Committee on Temperature. The comparison results verify the equivalence of high temperature values in China and international temperature standards.

In addition, the (1234.93~3020) K temperature reference device has passed the international peer expert review, and the official website of the International Bureau of Metrology (BIPM) has published the calibration measurement capability (CMC) of three high temperature values based on the silver fixed point black body, standard photoelectric pyrometer and tungsten belt lamp of this reference device.
