Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
When it comes to primrose, everyone is familiar with it, but when it comes to wild primrose, there may be some doubt. Is this wild primrose?
Since I'm asking, the answer must be no. Although Ye Yingchun has "wild" in its name, it is not related to wild and cultivated primroses. They are two different species of the genus Melilotus, which are closely related. The real primroses are wild, and wild primroses are also artificially cultivated.
Ye Yingchun, like Yeju, is really a confusing name. It sounds like people can't help but suspect that this is probably a common name. after all, it is too casual to use "wild".
However, Ye Yingchun is indeed its Chinese scientific name. As one of the plants of Jasminum, those that sound more elegant and scientific, "Yunnan Jasminum" and "Yunnan Yellow Jasminum" have become its aliases. Perhaps, all this has been defeated by the love of the word "welcome spring" in Chinese traditional culture. After all, it is closely followed by "Nafu".
As a common early spring flower in China, the application of wild spring in landscaping is almost the same as that of primrose. There is always a figure in all kinds of lakeside, riverside, green belt and so on. The difference is that the two relatives have different distribution areas because of their different choices of climatic conditions.
If you search the Internet for primroses, at least half of them are wild primroses. However, although wild primrose and primrose look similar, there are still many details that can tell the difference between the two.
If you look at the wild and welcome the spring at first glance, you will find that it has 6-8 "petals", but in fact it is not a real petal, but a Corolla lobe. The real petals should be separated from each other, not together at the base as it does.
Along the downward part of these Corolla lobes is the Corolla tube of wild spring. Further down, there is the green part under the Corolla tube, called calyx, which also has calyx lobes.
The subtle difference between Ye Yingchun and Yingchun is mainly reflected in these aspects.
Ye Yingchun looks like a compound flower.
The upper part of the bud of Ye Yingchun is very full, first of all, the Corolla lobes. From the front, the Corolla lobes of Yingchun are usually 6-8, showing a very stretch. Almost all of these lobes are longer than the Corolla tube, or at least nearly the same length, overlap each other, and look like compound flowers. From the side, the whole flower looks like a funnel. Especially in the bud stage, the upper half of Ye Yingchun is full, like an inflated balloon, which is about to burst.
Primrose absolute single, Corolla tube similar to the goblet, as for primrose, its Corolla lobes are only 5-6, but also slightly implicit. Corolla lobes are less spreading, usually shorter than Corolla tube, and absolutely single, the whole flower looks like a goblet. In the bud stage, primrose is not as full as wild primrose, but much smaller.
The second is calyx lobes. The calyx lobes of Ye Yingchun are 5-8, showing leaflet-like lanceolate shape. The calyx lobes of primrose are 5-6, narrowly lanceolate, thinner and shorter.
Ye Yingchun's flower heart often has orange markings, that is to say, from a global or local point of view, Ye Yingchun with a diameter of 2-4.5 cm is more "wild" than a primrose with a diameter of 2-2.5 cm. By the way, in addition, Ye Yingchun's flower heart often has orange markings, while Yingchun's whole Corolla is uniform and yellowish.
Of course, if you don't look at it from a micro point of view, you can roughly distinguish it from a macro perspective. One is regional distribution, the other is growth habits.
Ye Yingchun blossoms with the leaves, and the four seasons are evergreen from the perspective of regional distribution, Ye Yingchun generally grows in the south, especially in the southwest, so it is also known as Nanyingchun, while primrose generally grows in the north. From the growth habit, Ye Yingchun is an evergreen shrub, flowering with leaves, and evergreen all the year round. On the other hand, primrose blossoms first and leaves later, and the leaves fall off before winter. The addition of the word nudiflorum means "naked flower", indicating this characteristic.
In addition, from a personal point of view, the yellow of Ye Yingchun is a very bright and dazzling golden yellow, which is different from the slightly yellowish primrose, even if it blossoms on the branches full of green leaves. In comparison, the nickname of primrose gold belt will be more worthy of the name of Yingchun.
After comparing the two for such a long time, in addition to being related species of the same genus, there is actually a sentence recorded in the Flora of China: "according to cytological studies, it is possible that primrose is a northern derivative of wild primrose." No wonder.
Finally, Ye Yingchun, like primrose, has become the messenger of spring in all parts of our country. Perhaps many people have been mistakenly referred to as primrose for the wild spring, but put aside the facts, who cares.
