CTOnews.com, April 1 (Xinhua)-- according to Wired, there are environmental problems in Microsoft's super-large data center in the Netherlands, which are opposed by local farmers. The report points out that there are two main problems in the data center. One is the occupied area, and the other is nitrogen emissions.

A very large data center needs at least 10000 square feet of space. However, the Dutch government introduced restrictions in 2022, and Microsoft, a data center under construction, was exempted.

Another problem is nitrogen emissions. The Netherlands produces four times as much nitrogen as other EU countries and is working to halve those emissions by 2030. However, Microsoft managed to obtain a "tolerance decision" (tolerance decision) from local environmental agencies, allowing Microsoft to continue to build a data center despite excessive nitrogen emissions.
