CTOnews.com, March 31 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- Microsoft recently announced that it will increase the security level of OneNote and will block .bat and other file types like Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

When Microsoft OneNote previously opened .bat and other file types, it would pop up a warning dialog box to inform users that opening the attachment might damage their data. However, users can still choose to open embedded files marked as dangerous.

After the security improvements are introduced, users will no longer be able to choose to open files with dangerous extensions. Microsoft will pop up and tell the user, "your administrator has blocked you from opening this file type in OneNote."

Microsoft said the change would be available in Current Channel (preview) version 2304 of OneNote for Microsoft 365 on Windows devices from late April 2023 to late May 2023.

This improvement is also available in Office 2021, Office 2019, and Office 2016 retail versions of Current Channel, although volume licensed versions such as Office Standard 2019 or Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021 are not available.
