CTOnews.com, March 31 (Xinhua)-- Ford announced that the basic model "Pro" of the Fmur150 Lightning (Lightning) electric pickup has been raised from $55974 to $59974, excluding $1895 in freight. This is $20, 000 higher than the $39974 released in May 2021, and other models such as the Lariat and Platinum have also raised prices to varying degrees.

It is reported that the price of the Lariat model rose by $1500 to $77869, while the price of the Platinum model rose by $1200 to $99969. Both prices include freight. The only thing that has not been affected is the slightly cheaper XLT, whose price has not changed since it rose to $63474 in December. However, this is also more than $10, 000 higher than the initial $52974.

CTOnews.com noted that Ford has faced some challenges since the launch of the electric pickup truck. Most notably, a battery fire caused the company to suspend production and delivery of the car and recall more than a dozen vehicles. Such accidents are particularly tricky at a time when the company is vigorously promoting its electrification strategy and laying off staff.

Ford has resumed production of lightning electric pickups, but that doesn't mean it will be easier to buy, according to CNBC. The company's consumer and professional websites have noted that "due to strong demand, the current model can no longer accept retail orders."

Ford's competitors are no better off. Rivian's R1T starts at about $73000, and the company tells current bookings that they won't receive the car until at least the fall of 2023. At the same time, prices may change and delays are possible. As for Tesla's Cybertruck, its price and time to market are still a mystery.
