With the development of science and technology, using smartphones to navigate and travel has become an indispensable part of many people's daily lives. The application of satellite navigation, especially Beidou satellite navigation and positioning technology, enables many users who are not familiar with road conditions and directions to achieve "freedom of travel" at the technical level.

But in the real scene, there are still many situations that mobile navigation can not solve perfectly. For example, when users drive through some long tunnels, usually due to mountain occlusion, the satellite signal is weak or even can not be received, they will find that the navigation is difficult to operate accurately, and the positioning is not timely, drift, or even completely lost.

In view of the stubborn problem of positioning in the tunnel industry, Amap announced that it has recently launched a new smartphone tunnel navigation solution, which is based on the independently developed VDR inertial navigation enhanced positioning (hereinafter referred to as VDR inertial navigation enhancement) technology, which can greatly improve the positioning accuracy and success rate in long tunnels and ensure users' navigation reliability and experience in this complex scene.

This is also the first tunnel navigation solution in China with complete positioning capability and based on smartphone.

According to reports, in the past, due to the masking of satellite signals, mobile phone navigation usually used "inertial navigation" technology to guide users in tunnels, and its basic principle was to use the direction and speed of the vehicle to calculate the instantaneous position. in order to achieve continuous autonomous positioning. However, because the calculation process is a cumulative process, the positioning error will accumulate with the extension of time, and can only determine the relative position and heading. When dealing with longer and more complex tunnels, the accuracy will decrease greatly.

On the other hand, the VDR inertial navigation enhanced positioning technology independently developed by Gao de integrates mobile phone sensors, road network, mobile network, satellite and other elements for mixed real-time operation, and obtains higher accuracy and stability results, in order to deal with the positioning inaccuracy caused by weak single satellite signal.

In this way, even when driving into a long tunnel, Amap users can use their smartphones to get a more timely and accurate location in the tunnel, preventing driving errors caused by unable to respond in time when there is a fork in the tunnel; they can even understand the current real-time and accurate driving speed through Amap to prevent violations such as speeding.

It is understood that Gaode tunnel navigation has supported more than 600 tunnels nationwide, including Shanghai's Bund Tunnel, Renmin Road Tunnel, Hangzhou Zizhi Tunnel, Wenyi Tunnel and so on. This feature is automatically activated when the user drives to a supported tunnel route during navigation. In addition, users can also search "Tunnel Navigation" on Amap for more detailed product information.

As a professional solution provider of digital map content, navigation and location services, Amap is always committed to transforming various cutting-edge technologies into civil transportation services in innovative ways to provide users with a better travel experience. In the future, Amap will also continue to improve in the field of technology to better serve the transportation of the majority of users.
