Exactly a month after the launch of PlayStation VR2 (PS VR2 for short), I believe many players have experienced it, but more people should still be watching. After a serious experience of PS VR2, I would also like to talk to you about my feelings.

Operation in terms of hardware, PS VR2 gives me the most intuitive feeling is "take and use".

The process of wearing devices is quite convenient, which is the most intuitive embodiment of technological progress from PS VR to PS VR2. The complex composition of PS VR, such as cameras, adapter boxes, and processing units, brings a large number of cables, which is actually a hindrance to gamers. after all, most people are too lazy to reconnect different cables several times a day.

PS VR2 is very good at this point, as long as a data cable is connected to the USB port of the PS5 host, it can be enabled at any time, and usually you can use cinema mode to play something else, even if you don't play VR games.

PS VR2 has only one external cable if this is the first time you have used this kind of device, PS VR2 has an intimate setup tutorial after connecting to the mainframe, just plug in and follow the tutorial. It will guide you through the initial installation and debugging steps, such as wearing headphones, activating the Sense controller handle to match PS5, wearing PS VR2 head display, adjusting lens spacing focus, customizing your personal eye tracking and scanning play space.

After wearing a head monitor on your head, it feels a little heavy at first, but you can get used to it quickly, and the designers of PS VR2 obviously take into account the comfort of the head-wearing device. However, there is still a small problem: the silicone cover is used in the bridge of the eye socket, which is soft and comfortable, but it can only block the light and does not participate in the support, which causes the friction between it and the skin to be a little inadequate. it won't take long to slide down.

I used PS VR2 to play Horizon: the call of the Mountain (Horizon: Call of the Mountain), which is one of the main games of PS VR2. If you are considering whether to buy it with PS VR2, please don't hesitate. Players in the game, need to do a lot of climbing, jumping and fighting, these are through the PS VR2 standard Sense handle to complete.

For example, to perform the "climbing" action, players need to move their left and right hands to locate the climbing point, and finally grab the handle and press the trigger button to complete the grab. I can use the handle to make all kinds of gestures in the game. When playing, I can choose to sit or stand. Different gestures will affect the viewing angle. Generally speaking, standing posture depends more on limb movements, while sitting posture depends more on handles. For example, at first I chose to sit and play, but in the middle of the game, when I stood up and tried to turn my head-instead of using a handle-to look around, I noticed that my body was suddenly a head taller than my teammates, which was very interesting.

Most of the time I play standing up, walking with a joystick, turning against my body, without a joystick, so that I don't easily feel dizzy in 3D. In the combat link, where there is a bunker, move out of the bunker by your side instead of the joystick; in a battle without a bunker, when facing the enemy, I choose to use waving transitions for long-distance evasion, short-distance evasion by jumping or sliding from left to right, or squatting horizontally. From this point of view, PS VR2 allows players to rely on the body rather than just the handle to do a lot of movements, greatly enhancing the sense of substitution.

Generally speaking, when playing Horizon: the call of the Mountain, my feeling is that compared with other VR products, PS VR2 may not have too many breakthrough designs, but it polishes many details very well. Each of my above actions is not only "able to do", but also "natural", which is very suitable for beginners.

It is worth mentioning that, just like the above mentioned arrow shooting with the aid of eye tracking, in Horizon: the call of the Mountain, I can also control the cursor to select the menu through my eyes.

The function of eye movement tracking is much more than that. as a unique function of PS VR2, it starts from "human eye focus accounts for only a small part of the picture" and renders the in-focus picture with high precision through the cooperation of eye movement, saving performance consumption and improving the picture level of the corresponding part. As a result, I didn't feel any change when I was playing. No matter where my eyes were in focus, I felt that the picture was quite clear, but when I opened the screenshot, I found that the picture out of focus was a little blurry.

The arrow adjusts the angle according to the position I'm looking at. The eye tracking feature has a lot of places to dig. For example, "Black Phase: zigzag Road VR" (Dark Pictures: Switchback VR), released on March 16, is based on this feature to design enemies that only move when players blink.

Or I may have imagined some scenarios myself, such as in a detective game, opening clues through the player's long gaze, or asking NPC to respond to the player's line of sight and make various actions-just as the Fire Girl in Dark Soul 3 will dance to the player's movements. The eye tracking function can lead to many new forms of interaction, which people look forward to.

Speaking of expectations, although the number of exclusive games offered by the PS5 platform is small, in addition to Horizon: the call of the Mountain, there are still a number of 3A-level masterpieces-Sony's first-party GT Racing 7, and the third-party popular game biochemical Evil: village, biochemical Evil 4 remake VR model is also available. In addition, I personally recommend two free PS VR2 games, one is National Service's "Ranch Planet" and the other is American Service's "Cactus Cowboy".

Wait-and-see or buy on the whole, the improvement of PS VR2 relative to the generation is still very big, especially in the picture, it can make people feel a strong sense of presence. If there is one thing that is not quite consistent with expectations, it is that although the resolution has improved a lot, it has not reached the level of non-screen effect; the color of the screen itself is quite good, and the details of the dark parts are very good, but the maximum brightness is not enough.

In my opinion, the maximum potential of PS VR2 has not yet been fully realized, and there will be more new games that fit closely with PS VR2 functions in the future, and they may create new ways to play from new ways of interaction, which is worth looking forward to. Of course, there are already a lot of games that support PS VR2, and for those who are still waiting, don't hesitate too much. PS VR2's current performance and potential are worth investing in.
