They use high-capacity lithium-rich manganese-based oxides as cathode materials, ultra-thin metal lithium as anode materials, and diaphragm coating technology, combined with comprehensive strategies such as reducing the amount of electrolyte to realize the reversible charge and discharge of ultra-high energy density batteries. The first discharge mass energy density of this kind of battery is as high as 711.30 watt-hours per kilogram, and the volume energy density is as high as 1653.65 watt-hours per liter, which reaches the highest energy density of lithium secondary battery which has been publicly reported. The relevant achievements have been published in KuaiBao of Chinese Physics and have applied for patents in China.

According to CTOnews.com, this ultra-high energy density lithium battery technology is expected to be used in special scenarios such as high altitude and deep space, as well as the future field of electric aviation. However, scientists also pointed out that at present, this technology still has some problems such as battery safety and life, which is still far from the practical application and needs to be further improved and optimized.
