Spanish 3D artist Aura Prods joined the 50th week of the "NVIDIA Studio Creative acceleration" series to share his "Dinosaur theme" work rendered with Blender.

Editor's note: this article is part of our weekly NVIDIA Studio Creative acceleration series, which aims to introduce invited artists, provide creative tips and tips, and demonstrate how NVIDIA Studio technology can improve creative workflows. We will also delve into the performance, technology, and resources of the new GeForce RTX 40 Series GPU, and how it can significantly accelerate content creation.

The creator will applaud this!

As the most popular free and open source 3D authoring suite in the world, Blender has released a major update to version 3.5. The latest version of the feature supports Open shading language (OSL) shaders using the NVIDIA OptiX raytracing engine and is expected to have a profound impact on 3D creative workflows.

In addition, 3D artist and filmmaker Pablo Reche Beltra á n (aka Aura Prods) appeared in the 50th issue of the NVIDIA Studio Creative acceleration series this week to share his short films inspired by Jurassic Park. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the artists who have contributed to the series, continued to have a positive impact and created inspirational works, and who will never forget their original ideals and aspirations in the future.

Blender 3.5 updates lead to better rendering

The Blender 3.5 update now supports OSL shaders with NVIDIA OptiX, allowing 3D artists to use shaders in Cycles and render with NVIDIA RTX GPU. Previously, this type of workflow was limited to CPU rendering.

The Blender 3.5 update supports open shading language shaders with NVIDIA OptiX.

Scenes that use OSL render up to 36 times faster than those using CPU alone, which saves artists a lot of time.

Updates to Blender 3.5 also include animation and binding of creative workflows, nodes and physics, and modeling.

Dinosaur-themed renderings are never out of date.

3D artist Aura Prods misses watching the blockbuster Jurassic Park in cinemas as a child and hopes to one day recreate the unforgettable scene of the protagonist being intimidated by a giant Tyrannosaurus Rex in his car. Unlike those scary scenes, however, Aura Prods's videos are created in a rather lovely way.

"my five-year-old and eight-year-old cousins created this concept," Aura Prods said. "they painted the image of the dinosaur, and I was inspired to create it in 3D."

Aura Prods, who lives in the small city of Almer í a (Almeria) in southern Spain, happens to be able to shoot video clips in the nearby town of Tavernas, where Hollywood directors often shoot western films. Aura Prods first filmed the necessary footage, then modeled the dinosaur and filled it into the scene.

His preferred 3D application is Blender. "there is no doubt that I really like Blender," Aura Prods said. "with it, I can turn any idea in my mind into a 3D work through a simple workflow."

Thanks to GeForce RTX 4080 GPU, he manually modeled and carved each dinosaur using OptiX ray tracing technology accelerated by RTX in Blender Cycles windows, enabling interactive and realistic modeling.

After getting a satisfactory model, Aura Prods tried a variety of textures, then bound and animated the model. With accelerated rendering and NVIDIA NanoVDB, he quickly applied dynamic blur visual effects to achieve easier volume rendering.

Geometric nodes add bionic style and customization to scenes and animations in Blender.

Aura Prods uses RTX-accelerated OptiX ray tracing technology in Blender Cycles to quickly export fully rendered files to Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve software.

Thus, Aura Prods's RTX GPU significantly speeds up his synthesis workflow. He easily applies the color blending, video editing and color range functions accelerated by GPU, and also uses NVDEC, which is also accelerated by GPU, to decode, enabling smooth video playback and smooth dragging of high-resolution clips.

"NVIDIA RTX GPUs has the only technology that can handle a large number of polygons in this project. From personal experience, I know how reliable this GPU is." -Aura Prods

RTX 4080 GPU provides accelerated support for Aura Prods to use the new AI video editing tools, enabling AI performance up to 2x higher than the previous generation. Performance improvements also apply to existing RTX accelerated AI features, including automatic marking and effect tracking of clips, SpeedWarp for smoothing slow motion, and video super resolution.

Aura Prods then applied several AI functions to achieve his desired visual effects. He finally perfected the project by deploying AV1 dual encoders for RTX 4080 GPU, cutting export time in half.

"with today's AI tools, I have achieved my wish to recreate this aesthetics and memory in this new digital age," Aura Prods said.

During the production of the film, he scanned the entire desert and took more than two months to build a number of 3D spaceships. You can watch this movie on its YouTube channel.
