CTOnews.com, March 30, according to the latest report released by market research firm Canalys, shipments of the Indian PC market (including desktops, laptops and tablets) in the fourth quarter of 2022 were 4.1 million units, down 22% from a year earlier.

Of this total, notebook shipments were 2.3 million, down 31 per cent from a year earlier; desktop shipments were 695000, down 5 per cent from a year earlier; and tablet shipments were 1.2 million, down 7 per cent from a year earlier.

PC shipments increased by 5 per cent for the whole of 2022. Among them, laptop shipments were 11 million, down 7% from the same period last year; desktop shipments were 3.2 million, up 37% from the same period last year; and tablet shipments were 5.4 million, up 21% from the same period last year.

Canalys expects shipments of 18 million PC and tablet computers in India in 2023, down 6 per cent from a year earlier. This is less than the decline in the global market, which is expected to contract by 9 per cent.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that in terms of brand segments, Apple overtook Samsung in the fourth quarter of 2022 to become the leader in the tablet market. Apple's combined Mac and iPad sales rose 60.2% year-on-year, making it the first brand to show positive growth in the Indian market.

The only company ahead of Apple is Hewlett-Packard, with a market share of 23.2%. However, HP's annual sales fell 27.6% from a year earlier. Sales at Lenovo and Dell are also falling every year.
