CTOnews.com, March 30 (Xinhua)-- Apple will open its fifth retail store in South Korea on Friday. In order to attract local users, the company has specially invited NewJeans, a female K-pop group, to participate in the promotion, Bloomberg reported.

Apple set up a makeshift studio in the new store in Gangnam district in downtown Seoul on Wednesday so that visitors can enjoy the exclusive space audio version of NewJeans's hit song "OMG", according to reports.

Using K-pop groups for marketing is nothing new in South Korea. Samsung has launched a BTS version of the Galaxy S20 + smartphone, and such partnerships often spark heated discussion online.

Bloomberg said the move shows that Apple is stepping up its post-epidemic offensive in this important Asian growth market. Earlier this month, Apple Apple Pay launched in South Korea, and local media reported that Apple also plans to open a sixth store in Seoul this year. By then, the number of Apple stores in Seoul will surpass that of Tokyo, Japan.

According to CTOnews.com, Apple's Jiangnan store is Apple's first new retail store since it opened its "Apple American Dream" store in New Jersey in December. According to Patrick Schuerpf, director of Apple's Asian retail business, Apple now has a retail team of nearly 800 people working in South Korea.

NewJeans is a five-member women's team created by ADOR, a new independent brand owned by HYBE, and its members include Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein. They made their debut with the single "Attention" in July 2022, followed by two more singles "Hype Boy" and "Cookie" and released their debut mini album of the same name in August. In 2023, they released their first single album, OMG, which was a commercial success. The album includes two singles "Ditto" and "OMG".
