CTOnews.com, March 29 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- according to a recent research report released by the TechInsights smartphone country share tracking (SCST) service, the size of the Q4 Kenyan smartphone market fell 7% in 2022 compared with the same period last year. This is the second consecutive quarter of annual decline in Africa's fourth-largest market.

The Kenyan market continues to be challenged by high inflationary pressures and consumers are cautious about buying technology products. Adverse exchange rate fluctuations also limit the import of equipment and the rise in prices. TechInsights expects these challenges to continue into the first half of 2023 and rebound in the last quarter of 2023.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that transmissions dominated the Kenyan smartphone market in the quarter. The top three were occupied by its sub-brands Tecno, Infinix and Itel, respectively, with smartphone shipments accounting for 59 per cent of total shipments in the quarter. Samsung was not far behind (12%), followed by Xiaomi (8%).
