As more and more lawyers, clinicians, professors and students use ChatGPT, it also begins to show its usefulness in the business field. For many Amazon sellers who want to boost sales, they use ChatGPT to seek more competitive advantage in subtle ways. Third-party merchants using ChatGPT say the artificial intelligence tool could make sales in the Amazon market easier and more profitable.

Chad Rubin sells vacuum hoses on Amazon. He has always wanted to create a pleasant and memorable title for his products to attract buyers to click and buy his hoses among many hose products.

Rubin turned to the recently popular ChatGPT to complete various tasks, such as asking ChatGPT to "generate five very ingenious and catchy titles" for his vacuum cleaner hose.

"use airflow to remove dirt," he read ChatGPT's reply. "I would never have thought I could describe a vacuum hose like that."

In recent months, a series of videos and articles have appeared on Google's video platform YouTube to introduce Amazon sellers to the benefits of using ChatGPT. E-commerce software providers such as JungleScout are also integrating ChatGPT into their services.

"this is a technology that will fundamentally change everything in our lives," said Stephen Curial Courier, head of technology at JungleScout, who worked as a software developer at Amazon for 10 years. "it's just that powerful."

Courier says it won't be long before generative artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT will become a right-hand man at work, doing tasks such as numerical calculations or spell checking, helping business people reduce the onerous and repetitive tasks of the day.

Since the public launch of OpenAI in November last year, ChatGPT has caused a storm in the technology industry.

At present, millions of people are using ChatGPT to write novels, automatically generate computer code or edit resumes. Microsoft has integrated the technology behind ChatGPT into Bing's search engine, and last month Google launched Bard, a rival chat robot for ChatGPT.

While the entire tech start-up market remains depressed, investors are pouring into artificial intelligence with billions of dollars. Last week, Character., a startup with only 22 employees. AI raised $150 million in a round led by Anderson Horowitz, valuing it at $1 billion. It was founded by two former Google employees and has yet to generate revenue.

Hamzeh Armol (Hamza Amor), Amazon seller and founder of e-commerce consulting firm Fussy Penguins, posted a series of short videos on TikTok showing how ChatGPT can help merchants find the hottest products.

Last December, Armol began experimenting with ChatGPT, asking robots such as "tell me more about you" and "what's the meaning of life?" Then he tried to get ChatGPT to write short passages such as children's stories. He was impressed by the automatically generated content.

Armol also asked ChatGPT to help improve the product by summarizing users' likes and dislikes based on a set of comments. For example, ChatGPT suggested that he use different packaging and more durable materials for an under-table footstool on sale, or consider offering a variety of size options and footstool height adjustable features.

ChatGPT also helps Armol write product descriptions, a process that used to take Amazon sellers hours to write and edit.

"it will do what you suggest, and it will only take a few seconds," Armol said. "that's the most surprising thing."

ChatGPT has already made a real difference for some Amazon sellers. Rubin said that after he used ChatGPT to describe his products, the ad conversion rates of several vacuum filters, coffee filters and air purifiers all increased. The conversion rate of one of the products increased from 26% to 46% in eight weeks, he said.

Rubin also sees more opportunities to take advantage of the ChatGPT trend, which is to provide an introduction to how other Amazon sellers use ChatGPT. Because many third-party sellers need to manage dozens or even hundreds of products of the maintenance platform at the same time, they compete with many new sellers every day.

In 2021, Rubin founded a pricing software company called Profasee, which uses artificial intelligence for some of its functions. Rubin said he plans to integrate ChatGPT into a new tool to help sellers quickly adjust their product titles.

However, the effectiveness of ChatGPT will also be questioned by many people. It turns out that new artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT is easy to make mistakes and in some cases is just fabricating content. ChatGPT learns how to write by analyzing a large amount of information from the Internet, which may lead to what artificial intelligence experts call "hallucinations".

Aidan Duffy, an Amazon seller who also runs a consulting firm, turned to ChatGPT to help boost sales of his own massage backrest. ChatGPT not only helps him list selling points in the product description, but also advises him to design backrest adjustable features for users of different heights. Duffy said he did consider making such a backrest.

But Duffy said he still had doubts about the accuracy of ChatGPT. Duffy says he recently used ChatGPT to consult on how to import the product. "the answer given is only readable, and I think it's just a basic industry practice," he said. "it won't do all the work for you."
