CTOnews.com, March 29 (Xinhua)-- Apple announced a new requirement on Tuesday that developers must use Xcode 14.1 or later tools when submitting applications to App Store to ensure that applications are compatible with systems such as iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9, tvOS 16 and macOS Ventura.

Xcode is a tool that developers use to create apps on Apple platforms (including iOS and macOS). This new rule will take effect on April 25, 2023, when App Store will no longer accept apps developed with older versions of Xcode. This rule applies to newly submitted apps and updates to apps that are already on the shelves. Apple also "strongly recommends" developers to update their apps to take advantage of the latest features provided by systems such as iOS 16 and iPadOS 16.

Apple said on its developer website:

Starting April 25, 2023, iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS applications submitted to App Store must be developed using Xcode 14.1 or later. The latest version of Xcode 14 includes the latest SDK for iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and watchOS 9, and is available for free download from Mac App Store.

When developing your application, we strongly recommend that you take advantage of the latest features provided by iOS 16, iPadOS 16 and watchOS 9.

According to CTOnews.com, iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 provide developers with many new API, such as Live Activities, App Intents, Metal 3 on iPhone and improved iPad application interface. WatchOS 9 provides more complex functions for the dial, supporting VoIP phones and so on.

It is worth noting that Xcode 14 is available for free download from Mac App Store, requires Mac running macOS Monterey 12.5 or later, and the latest version of Xcode can also be downloaded from Apple's developer website.
