Mr. Tu Xuyan was born in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province on February 15, 1935. After graduating from Nanchang No. 1 Middle School in 1951, he was admitted to the Electrical Engineering Department of Huazhong Institute of Technology (now Huazhong University of Science and Technology) and graduated from the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1962. From 1963 to 1984, he served as an assistant researcher and associate researcher at the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Transferred to Beijing Iron and Steel Institute (now Beijing University of Science and Technology) in 1985, he has served as head, professor and doctoral supervisor of the computer Department, Director of the Institute of computer and system Science, Honorary Dean of the Institute of artificial Intelligence, has made outstanding contributions to the discipline construction and personnel training of computer and artificial intelligence in the University of Science and Technology of Beijing, and is deeply respected and loved by colleagues and students.

Mr. Tu Xuyan has made a pioneering contribution to the development of artificial intelligence and automatic control in contemporary China. He is a well-known scientist and educator with pioneering spirit at home and abroad.

In 1976, Mr. Tu Xuyan began to engage in artificial intelligence research and presided over the development of the world's first TCM expert system-"Guan Youbo TCM liver Disease diagnosis prescription expert system". In the world, he took the lead in putting forward new concepts of "intelligent management" and new methods such as "multi-level expert system", which won the national award for major scientific and technological achievements in tackling key scientific and technological problems during the Seventh five-year Plan. The book artificial Intelligence and its Application was edited and published in 1988, which won the first prize of excellent textbook of the Ministry of Electronic Industry in 1992. As the main founder of the new discipline branch of "large-scale system cybernetics", he took the lead in carrying out the research on the theory and application of large-scale systems in China. "large-scale system cybernetics" is listed as a high-quality textbook of higher education in Beijing. In the field of system science, he founded coordination theory, multivariable coordinated control theory and the most economic control theory, and won many scientific and technological progress awards such as the Ministry of Metallurgy and Electronics. Won the second Wu Wenjun artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Award Achievement Award in 2012. He has published more than 20 academic works, more than 300 academic papers and 3 collections of poems.
