Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu and guser for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com March 28, Steam officially released a client-side Beta update today, the official blog marked an important hint: from January 1, 2024, Steam will no longer support Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 systems.

In order to continue to run Steam and any games or other products purchased through Steam, CTOnews.com partners need to use newer versions of the Windows system.

The reason for this is that the latest features in Steam rely on Google's embedded version of Chrome, the web shell. The latest stable version of Chrome 110no longer supports the old version of Windows, so Steam will follow suit. In addition, future versions of Steam will require Windows feature and security updates that exist only in Windows 10 and later.

This change will have a small impact on the subsequent Steam software and hardware statistics. The combined share of Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 is only about 2%. Windows 10's share has reached 64.68%, and the latest Windows 11 share is 33.27%.
