Beijing, March 28 (Xinhua) Google's parent company Alphabet on Monday asked a federal judge to dismiss an antitrust lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice because the Justice Department still failed to find evidence to support the lawsuit after more than three years of investigation.

Note: in January this year, the US Department of Justice, together with eight states, filed an advertising technology lawsuit against Google, accusing it of illegally abusing its dominant position in the online advertising market. The Justice Department argues that Google should be forced to sell its advertising management suite. Google denies any wrongdoing.

"in more than three years of investigating Google's advertising technology business, the DoJ has received more than 2m documents from Google and more than 30 testimonies from Google witnesses," Alphabet said in a court filing late on Monday. "however, the plaintiffs are still unable to find evidence to support their alleged antitrust damages."

Google argues that the case should be dismissed because the government made a mistake in defining the online advertising market and improperly excluded strong competitors such as Facebook. The company said the government estimated that Google's advertising market share was "more than 50 per cent", but did not reach the 70 per cent needed for so-called market dominance. Google also said the government was wrong to assert that Google's acquisitions of DoubleClick and AdMeld more than a decade ago hurt competition. At the time, US antitrust law enforcement agencies approved the two deals.
