CTOnews.com, March 28, according to the latest report released by market research firm Canalys, shipments of personal computers (including desktops, laptops and workstations) in the US market in the fourth quarter of 2022 were 16.1 million, down 23% from a year earlier.

Shipments of laptops (including mobile workstations) fell by 24% and desktops (including desktop workstations) by 22%.

Due to discounts and promotions during the Christmas shopping season, tablet shipments in that quarter were 12.6 million, up 2 per cent from a year earlier.

Apple shipped 5.8 million iPad units in the quarter and gained 42% of the overall market share in 2022. Amazon's shipments fell slightly in the fourth quarter, but grew by 6% in 2022 as a whole.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that Samsung continued to stay in third place, growing 15% in the fourth quarter and a strong holiday performance. TCL has reintroduced several tablet devices, with an astonishing 79% growth in 2022. Microsoft's tablet shipments plunged 42% in the fourth quarter, but it remained in the top five in 2022.

Shipments of personal computers in the global u.s. market fell 18% in 2022, while tablet shipments were the same as in 2021, the report said. According to the report, due to constraints such as weak demand and continued inventory adjustments, Canalys expects US PCs to decline by another 12 per cent in 2023, but tablet market shipments will grow by 15 per cent.
